Overview

Boone County Fire Protection District (BCFPD) is Missouri’s third-largest fire department and the largest volunteer department in the state. With 200 members, the department operates 15 stations and serves 9 municipalities. BCFPD recruits many local college students through its Station Residency Program, offering free housing in exchange for service. BCFPD has 17-18% women volunteers—well above the national average—and has also helped launch the careers of 28 fire chiefs nationwide.

Challenge

High turnover and limited pump time made it difficult for volunteers to gain and maintain pump proficiency.

Solution

SAM automates key pumping functions, allowing volunteers to operate pumps with greater confidence and far less hands-on experience. SAM supports faster, safer responses and gives the crew the ability to focus on the fireground.

SAM makes everything a firefighter does more efficient, and by investing in SAM-enabled trucks, we can make things calmer and quicker on the scene, maximizing our volunteers’ time and making our citizens and firefighters better off.”
