Overview
Located near the Canadian border in Vermont, South Hero Volunteer Fire Department (SHVFD) serves a rural community of 1,600 in winter and 5,000 in summer. SHVFD responds to 300 calls annually (120 fire-related using a fully volunteer team. The department faces extreme winter conditions, with temparatures often dropping to -30°F.
Challenge
